MZOOL Zoology with Marine Zoology
About this course
Zoology with marine zoology brings together the scientific study of animal life in all its forms with a specialist focus on the marine environment, which contains the majority of the Earth's biodiversity and is among the least well understood and most threatened ecosystems on the planet. Zoology provides the broad biological and evolutionary framework, examining animal physiology, behaviour, ecology, and conservation across terrestrial and aquatic environments. Marine zoology develops that foundation in the direction of marine organisms and ecosystems, addressing the biology of fish, invertebrates, marine mammals, and other ocean life, and the ecological and conservation challenges they face. At Bangor University, set on the Menai Strait in north Wales with direct access to outstanding marine environments, you will study zoology with marine zoology over four years full-time. A foundation year is available for students who would benefit from additional preparation before the main programme. The location gives the programme exceptional access to the field and marine environments that are central to this kind of study: the surrounding coastline, the Menai Strait, and nearby marine conservation zones provide a genuine outdoor laboratory. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement provision, giving you extensive professional experience in zoological and marine research or conservation settings. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates work in marine research, conservation, environmental consultancy, fisheries management, aquaria, and government environmental agencies. Many continue to postgraduate study in marine biology, conservation biology, ecology, or zoology, where the combination of broad zoological training and marine specialism is a strong foundation for specialist research or professional roles.
