Biochemistry has become the foundational science for understanding all biological processes. It examines the chemical basis of life: the structure and function of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids, the metabolic pathways that convert energy and build cellular components, and the molecular mechanisms by which genes are expressed and regulated. From drug discovery and cancer research to agricultural biotechnology and food science, the knowledge and methods developed by biochemists are applied across an extraordinary range of fields. The three-year full-time Biochemistry programme at the University of Salford is described as at the cutting edge of research and as an exceptionally versatile scientific discipline. You will study the core principles of biochemistry, developing both the theoretical understanding and the practical laboratory skills that the discipline requires.
