Computing science is concerned with the theory and practice of computation, encompassing the algorithms, programming languages, data structures, software engineering methods, and systems that make it possible to build the applications, platforms, and infrastructure on which modern life depends. It is both a rigorous intellectual discipline and a practical engineering field, requiring graduates who can think clearly about complex problems, design effective solutions, and implement them reliably in software.
