About this course

Criminology and law are disciplines with natural and productive overlaps. Criminology uses the tools of sociology, psychology, and political analysis to understand why crime occurs, how it is defined, and how society responds to it. Law provides the formal framework within which crime is codified, prosecuted, and punished. Studying them together gives you a richer understanding of both: you can examine how legal rules are shaped by social forces, and how the gaps between the law on paper and its lived reality reveal deeper inequalities and tensions in how justice is administered. At the University of Huddersfield, this three-year full-time programme explores both disciplines with seriousness and depth.
