Energy engineering is the discipline concerned with the generation, conversion, transmission and efficient use of energy, and it has never been more important. The global transition away from fossil fuels towards renewable and low-carbon sources of energy is one of the defining engineering challenges of this century, requiring professionals who understand both the technical dimensions of energy systems and the broader context of sustainability, policy and economic viability. Energy engineers work on solar and wind power, hydroelectric systems, tidal and wave energy, grid management and energy storage, as well as the efficiency of buildings, industrial processes and transport.
