About this course

Health and social care as an academic discipline examines the systems, policies, and practices through which societies provide support to people who need it, from children and families to older adults, people with disabilities, and those experiencing mental health difficulties or long-term conditions. It draws on sociology, psychology, public health, and policy analysis to understand how services are organised and delivered, how inequalities in health and wellbeing arise, and how the quality and reach of care can be improved. It is a degree with a strong commitment to making a practical difference in people's lives.
