Sport and exercise science is the systematic study of how the human body responds and adapts to physical activity, exercise, and sport. It is a discipline that combines physiology, psychology, biomechanics, and nutrition to understand athletic performance and to promote health and wellbeing across the population. The field ranges from the elite end of sport, where marginal gains are pursued through data-driven training and recovery protocols, to public health applications, where exercise is increasingly recognised as medicine.
