Computer engineering is the discipline concerned with the design and construction of computer systems at the level of hardware and the software that directly controls it. Where computer science tends to focus on algorithms, programming, and software systems, computer engineering takes you into the architecture of processors, memory systems, embedded systems, and the interfaces between hardware and software that determine how capable and efficient a computer can be. It is a discipline that requires both mathematical rigour and practical engineering instinct, and it underpins the design of everything from smartphones and laptops to supercomputers and industrial control systems.
