Fashion design is the creative and technical discipline concerned with conceiving, developing and producing clothing and accessories that respond to the needs, desires and identities of those who wear them. It brings together drawing and visual thinking, materials knowledge, pattern cutting, garment construction, trend awareness and an understanding of the consumer, the market and the cultural moment. Fashion is a global industry of considerable scale and complexity, and designers who can work across all of these dimensions, from initial concept through to a finished, commercially viable collection, are the ones who succeed in it.
