About this course

History is one of the most intellectually demanding and practically valuable of the humanities, concerned with understanding how human societies have changed over time and how the past continues to shape the present in ways that are not always visible. It trains you to read evidence critically, to weigh competing accounts, to understand the contexts in which events occurred, and to construct clear, well-reasoned arguments from complex and sometimes fragmentary sources. Politics, combined with history, provides the contemporary analytical dimension: examining how political systems operate now, what drives political behaviour, and how power is organised and contested in the present as well as the past. At the University of Buckingham, this two-year full-time degree offers an accelerated route through the combination of history and politics, completing in two years rather than the standard
