About this course

Motorsport engineering is a highly specialised discipline that applies mechanical, automotive, and electronic engineering to the demanding performance requirements of competitive racing. From Formula 1 to touring cars, from motorcycle racing to endurance events, motorsport operates at the absolute limits of what engineering can achieve: vehicles must be fast, reliable, and safe under conditions of extreme mechanical stress, and the margins between winning and losing are determined by engineering decisions made in fractions of a second or over months of development. At the University of Derby you will study part-time on a programme that includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement, giving you a structured progression from foundational engineering knowledge through to specialist motorsport content.
