Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, addressing questions that are fundamental to how we understand ourselves and each other. Why do people think, feel, and act the way they do? How does the brain support cognition, emotion, and consciousness? How do social environments shape individual development? What distinguishes typical from atypical psychological functioning, and what can be done to support wellbeing? The discipline is both empirical, drawing on experimental methods and statistical analysis, and deeply human, concerned with experiences and relationships that matter in everyday life.
