Aeronautics and astronautics together represent the outer limits of what engineering can achieve, designing and building machines that operate in the most demanding environments imaginable: high-speed flight through the atmosphere and the vacuum of space. Spacecraft engineering specialises in the systems, structures, propulsion, guidance and communication technologies that make it possible to send objects beyond the earth and operate them reliably in orbit and beyond. It is a discipline at the cutting edge of physics, materials science, control engineering and computing, requiring exceptional mathematical rigour and the ability to integrate knowledge across multiple engineering domains.
