Computer systems engineering is the discipline that bridges software development, hardware design and network architecture, combining the theoretical foundations of computing with the practical engineering skills to build and maintain the systems that underpin modern digital life. It draws on computing science, mathematics, electrical engineering and systems theory to address the design, construction, implementation and maintenance of the hardware and software components of computing systems, from embedded devices and microcontrollers to large-scale networked systems and intelligent devices. At Royal Holloway, this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year in professional placement, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you substantial practical and international experience alongside your academic study.
