Economics is the discipline that examines how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions under conditions of scarcity and uncertainty, and how those decisions produce the market and policy outcomes that shape everyday life. It draws on mathematical rigour, statistical analysis, and a rich body of accumulated theory to explain behaviour, evaluate the effects of policy, and inform both private decisions and public choices. From the microeconomics of how households and businesses respond to incentives, to the macroeconomics of growth, inflation, and international trade, economics gives you some of the most powerful analytical frameworks in the social sciences.
