English literature and Spanish is a combination that brings together two of the most richly developed literary traditions in the world. English literature spans over six centuries of poetry, drama, and prose, engaging with the culture, politics, and imagination of the English-speaking world in its extraordinary diversity. Spanish opens access to the literatures of Spain and twenty Latin American nations, from medieval epic and the Golden Age drama of Lope de Vega to the twentieth-century modernism of Borges, Lorca, and Garcia Marquez, and to the rich contemporary writing across the Spanish-speaking world today.
