Mechanical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering with Industrial Placement Year
MEng · University of Southampton · 5 years
About this course
Biomedical engineering occupies a compelling space where engineering precision meets the complexity of living systems. The field applies the principles and methods of mechanical, electrical and materials engineering to problems in medicine and biology, producing everything from diagnostic imaging systems and prosthetic limbs to implantable devices and surgical instruments. This five-year full-time programme at the University of Southampton combines mechanical engineering with biomedical engineering and incorporates an industrial placement year, giving you both rigorous technical training and direct experience of professional engineering practice. You will build strong foundations in mechanical engineering, including mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science and computational methods, before developing specialist knowledge in areas relevant to biomedical applications.
