It sits at the scientific heart of medicine and the pharmaceutical industry, providing the mechanistic understanding that guides the development of new treatments and the rational use of existing ones. As technologies in genomics, computational chemistry, and cell biology have advanced, the field has expanded to encompass a growing range of therapeutic approaches.
