About this course

Biomedical science is the laboratory-based health profession at the heart of modern clinical medicine. Biomedical scientists analyse the blood, tissue, and body fluid samples that doctors and other clinicians need to diagnose and monitor disease, performing the tests that underpin the vast majority of clinical decisions in the NHS and other healthcare systems. Working across specialisms including haematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, histopathology, immunology, and transfusion science, biomedical scientists apply scientific methods to questions of direct clinical importance. The University of Plymouth's three-year full-time Biomedical Science degree includes a foundation year and a sandwich year with work placement opportunities, carrying a typical entry tariff of 136 points.
