Biomedical science is the discipline that connects the laboratory to the clinic, applying biological and chemical knowledge to the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Biomedical scientists work at the interface of science and medicine, providing the analytical expertise on which clinical decisions depend: from haematology and clinical biochemistry to medical microbiology and cellular pathology. At the University of Sunderland, the BSc Biomedical Science with Integrated Foundation Year is a four-year full-time programme designed to provide a supported entry into degree-level study for those returning to education or who did not meet the standard entry requirements.
