Chemical engineering is the discipline that transforms chemistry from the laboratory scale to the industrial scale, asking how chemical processes can be designed, operated, and optimised to produce materials, fuels, pharmaceuticals, food products, and a growing range of sustainable technologies efficiently, safely, and at commercial volumes. It draws on chemistry, physics, mathematics, and thermodynamics to develop engineers who understand both how reactions and separations work at a fundamental level and how to design and control the equipment and processes that make them work at scale.
