About this course

Children and young people's nursing is a profession built on the understanding that children are not simply small adults. Their physiological, psychological, and developmental needs are distinct at every stage from infancy through adolescence, and nurses who specialise in working with them must combine clinical expertise with an ability to communicate sensitively with patients who may be frightened, in pain, and unable to articulate their symptoms clearly. Family-centred care is a fundamental principle: parents and carers are partners in the care of a sick child, and children's nurses must work effectively with the whole family unit. At the University of East Anglia this three-year full-time degree, which leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, divides your time between academic study and supervised clinical practice. In your studies you will cover child developmen
