Criminology

About this course

Criminology is the academic discipline that examines crime as a social phenomenon: why it occurs, who commits it, who is most affected by it, and how society responds through the systems of law enforcement, prosecution, punishment, and rehabilitation. It draws on sociology, psychology, law, and political science to ask critical questions not only about offenders but about the institutions and policies that define crime and shape justice. This three-year full-time programme at the University of Chester includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study crime and justice in a different national context and to develop a comparative understanding of how different societies approach these questions.
