About this course

Genetics is the science of heredity, the discipline that investigates how traits are passed from one generation to the next and how the information encoded in DNA gives rise to the extraordinary diversity of living organisms. Since the sequencing of the human genome, genetics has expanded into genomics, the study of entire genomes rather than individual genes, and the two fields together now underpin huge advances in medicine, biotechnology, evolutionary biology, and our understanding of life itself. The ability to read, interpret, and manipulate genetic information is one of the defining scientific capabilities of the twenty-first century. At the University of Essex, this three-year, full-time BSc (Hons) trains you across the full breadth of the discipline.
