About this course

Literature and Politics is a combination that has deep intellectual roots, because writers have always engaged with political life, and political theorists have often drawn on narrative, metaphor and the resources of literary culture to make their arguments. Literature is one of the primary means by which societies explore power, identity, justice, and the relationship between private experience and public life. Politics, in turn, provides the frameworks through which we understand how authority is exercised, contested, and legitimised, and how social organisation is structured and changed. Together they offer an unusually rich lens on the world.
