Medicinal chemistry and pharmacology share a common goal: understanding how chemical substances interact with living systems to produce therapeutic effects. Medicinal chemistry approaches this from the perspective of molecular design, asking how the structure of a drug molecule determines its activity, selectivity, and safety. Pharmacology looks at the effects of those molecules on the body, investigating the mechanisms by which drugs alter physiological processes and produce clinical outcomes. Together, these disciplines form the scientific foundation of the pharmaceutical industry and of modern drug discovery.
