Midwives support women and birthing people through pregnancy, labour and the early days and weeks of parenthood, providing clinical care, emotional support and health education that can shape maternal and infant outcomes in lasting ways. It is a profession that demands both clinical knowledge and exceptional interpersonal skill, the ability to monitor and respond to complex physiological processes while remaining a calm and trustworthy presence for people who are often vulnerable, frightened or overwhelmed.
