Podiatry is the healthcare profession dedicated to the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. Feet are fundamental to mobility and independence, and when problems arise, whether through diabetes, musculoskeletal conditions, skin and nail disorders, or biomechanical issues, the consequences for a person's quality of life can be significant. Podiatrists combine clinical knowledge with practical skill, working with patients across the life course from children with gait problems to older adults managing chronic conditions. The discipline draws on anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, biomechanics, and the behavioural sciences to support a genuinely holistic approach to patient care.
