About this course
Sport science for health applies the methods and knowledge of sport and exercise science to the promotion of health, wellbeing and physical activity across different populations. Where performance-focused sport science concentrates on optimising the bodies of competitive athletes, sport science for health asks how physical activity can be used more broadly to improve the quality of life of people with a wide range of needs, from young people developing physical literacy to adults rehabilitating after injury or illness and older adults managing chronic conditions. The field draws on anatomy, physiology, nutrition, psychology and public health.
