Archaeology and Celtic and Anglo-Saxon studies is a combination that illuminates the early medieval world of Britain and Ireland from two complementary perspectives. Archaeology examines the material evidence left by past populations, from settlements and burials to artefacts and environmental remains, developing skills in fieldwork, analysis, and the interpretation of physical evidence about how people lived. Celtic and Anglo-Saxon studies engages with the languages, literatures, and cultures of the peoples who shaped early medieval Britain and Ireland, including the Celtic peoples of the British Isles, the Anglo-Saxons of early England, and the Scandinavian settlers who left their mark across the north and east.
