Philosophy is one of the world's oldest academic subjects, asking fundamental questions about the world and how we understand it. Does evil exist? Are we ever truly free to act? What does morality or justice require? How do we know what we know, if we can ever know anything at all? These are not merely abstract puzzles: they are questions that bear directly on how we live, how we organise society, and how we engage with each other. Studying philosophy at degree level develops the ability to think clearly, construct well-developed arguments, and defend them with precision and intellectual honesty, across the most challenging terrain of human thought.
