Asbestos Safety Officer

As an asbestos safety officer, you inspect buildings and construction sites to find materials that contain asbestos - an invisible mineral that is very dangerous if breathed in. Once you find asbestos, you create a plan showing how it should be handled and removed safely. You write detailed reports and give advice to contractors and workers on how to protect themselves.

Your work matters because asbestos can cause serious lung disease and cancer if people are exposed to it over time. Most days you will visit buildings with builders, surveyors or facility managers, spot the risk, plan the safe removal, and check that the work is done properly. You need to know the UK regulations inside out and be able to explain them clearly to people who may not understand the danger.
