The role
What a cardiac technician actually does, day to day.
As a Cardiac Technician, you run special machines that test how someone's heart is working. You might do a heart trace (ECG) that shows the heartbeat on paper, or an ultrasound scan that shows the heart's shape and movement. You also watch patients while they exercise on a treadmill to see how their heart handles stress.
You spend time talking to patients, explaining what will happen so they feel calm, and then carrying out the test carefully. You need to spot when something looks wrong and tell the doctor. You also look after the machines, keep them clean and working properly, and write down all your results so the doctor can make the right diagnosis.
