Care Workers and Home Carers

AI

Care workers and home carers help people who need support - perhaps older people, or people who are ill or living with disability. They help with everyday tasks so people can stay independent and look after themselves at home.

The role

What a care workers and home carers actually does, day to day.

As a care worker or home carer, you help someone with tasks they find hard to do on their own. This might be anything from helping them wash and get dressed, to helping them move around safely, to keeping them company. The people you care for might live in a care home or their own home.

Every person is different, so your work changes day to day. You might help someone with personal care, or with medicines they need to take. You might go shopping with them, help them do hobbies they enjoy, or just sit and chat. You need to be gentle and respectful, especially when helping with personal things. You also keep their home clean and safe, and talk to their family and doctors so everyone knows how they are doing.
