Critical Theory Researcher

AI

Critical theory researchers study how society works and what power really means. They look at history, culture, and politics to understand why things are the way they are and how they could change.

The role

What a critical theory researcher actually does, day to day.

As a critical theory researcher, you read deeply about how society works - history, politics, culture, power and inequality. You ask big questions: Why do some groups have more power than others? How do ideas shape what we believe? You write essays and books that challenge the way people think, and your ideas influence people in universities, government and activism.

Most of your work is reading, thinking, writing and talking with other researchers. You might work in a university, a think tank, or an NGO. You read books and research papers, go to seminars where people debate ideas, and write your own arguments. The job needs real curiosity and good writing, and you should be ready to have your ideas tested and criticized - that's how research improves. You're not looking for one right answer; you're exploring why things are complicated and what we could do differently.
