Etsy Seller

AI

An Etsy seller makes or curates handmade, vintage or craft items and sells them through an online shop on Etsy. It suits creative people who like making things and want to turn a hobby or craft into a small business, on their own terms.

The role

What an etsy seller actually does, day to day.

The work is creating or sourcing products, photographing them well, writing listings, marketing your shop and packing and posting orders. Creativity is only half of it - good photos, clear descriptions, customer service and steady promotion are what actually win sales in a crowded marketplace.

You are self-employed, so income is unpredictable and often modest, especially at first, with no wage or holiday pay and the cost of materials and fees to cover. Many sellers run it alongside other work, and building a shop that sells well takes time, patience and persistence.

No qualifications are needed, but you must register as self-employed with HMRC once trading regularly and manage your own tax. Most sellers learn through doing, online guides and trial and error, improving their products and listings as they go.
