Game Developer

AI

Game developers create the video games that millions of people play. They write code, design how the game works, and test it to make sure it is fun and works properly.

The role

What a game developer actually does, day to day.

As a game developer, you write code that makes video games work. You take an idea for a game and build it into something real that people can play. You might work on how a character moves, how a puzzle works, how a weapon fires, or how fast the game runs on different devices. Every part of a game needs a programmer to make it actually happen.

You work with artists who create what the game looks like and sound designers who make the music and effects. You test your code to find problems and fix them. You also keep learning about new tools and tricks that make games better and faster. Some days you spend hours hunting down a bug; other days you get to see your code in action as a team plays a level for the first time and it works perfectly.
