The role
What a lifeguard actually does, day to day.
As a lifeguard, you watch swimmers and keep them safe. You sit or stand where you can see the whole pool or beach, looking for anyone who might be struggling. If someone is in trouble, you go in fast, rescue them and give first aid or do CPR if you need to.
The work demands focus and calm - you need to stay alert even on quiet days because emergencies happen quickly. You also talk to swimmers about water safety and make sure the equipment and water checks are done. Most days are quiet, but you need to be ready to act fast if someone needs help.
