The role
As a Litigation Specialist, you help clients who have a legal problem they cannot solve by talking alone. Your job is to represent them in court. You work closely with them to understand what happened, and then you build a case to try to win.
Your work involves lots of different things. You read through law books and old cases to find ones that help your client. You write legal documents that explain your client's position. You gather evidence - like documents, emails, or statements from witnesses. You meet with the other side's lawyers to see if there is a way to settle without going to court. And when the case does go to court, you stand up and argue for your client in front of a judge.
Daily responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research to support case strategies and arguments.
- Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
- Prepare and organize evidence for court presentations, ensuring everything is meticulously in order.
- Engage in negotiations with opposing counsel to seek favorable settlements.
- Represent clients in court hearings and trials, articulating their case with clarity and conviction.
- Collaborate with clients to gather necessary information and provide updates on case progress.
- Monitor case law and legal trends to inform ongoing strategies and client advice.
