About this course
Sport coaching is both a science and a craft. It draws on exercise physiology, psychology, pedagogy, and performance analysis to understand how athletes and participants develop, how training should be structured to produce improvement, and how coaches can build the relationships and environments that help people reach their potential. Good coaching is about far more than technique: it is about understanding people, planning intelligently, and reflecting honestly on what is and is not working. At the University of Northampton, this three-year full-time degree develops the core skills of coaching, including planning and delivering training sessions, assessing participant needs, designing both short-term and long-term programmes, and reviewing their effectiveness. The degree is designed to be flexible: in your second and third years, you can specialise in areas that match your career ambi
