Civil and environmental engineering addresses the infrastructure that underpins modern society and the natural systems that sustain it. Roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, water treatment works, ports, and buildings all require civil engineering expertise for their design, construction, and maintenance. Environmental engineering adds the critical dimension of sustainability, pollution control, and the protection of water, soil, and air resources to this infrastructure challenge. As climate change, urbanisation, and resource scarcity intensify, the two fields are increasingly inseparable.
