German and economics is a combination of considerable intellectual and professional power, bringing together rigorous linguistic and cultural expertise in one of Europe's most important languages with the analytical science of how economies and markets work. German is the most widely spoken native language in the European Union, the language of some of the world's most significant philosophical, literary, and scientific traditions, and the medium in which the economic powerhouse of Germany and the broader DACH region conducts its business and public life. Economics provides the theoretical and quantitative tools to understand how markets, firms, households, and governments make decisions and interact, and how policy can influence those outcomes.
