About this course

Mental Health Nursing is a profession with a central purpose: to support people experiencing mental illness, psychological distress and emotional difficulty in ways that promote recovery, wellbeing and independence. Mental health nurses work across a wide range of settings, from inpatient wards and crisis services to community teams and primary care, building therapeutic relationships with people facing conditions ranging from depression and anxiety to psychosis and complex trauma. The role demands exceptional communication skills, ethical sensitivity and the ability to manage risk thoughtfully while maintaining a commitment to person-centred care. At the University of Cumbria this three-year full-time degree leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, which you will achieve on graduation by meeting the NMC's requirements for entry to the mental health nursing register
