Theatre and performance studies is a discipline that takes seriously the power of live performance to challenge assumptions, shift perspectives, and create new ways of understanding the world. It encompasses the history and theory of theatre, performance analysis, and the making of theatrical work itself, asking both how performance works as an art form and what role it plays in culture and society. Combining this with global sustainable development is a particularly resonant pairing: theatre has a long history of political and social engagement, and the capacity to imagine different futures is central to both artistic practice and the project of sustainability.
