Biochemistry explores the molecular processes that underpin all living things, from the replication of DNA and the folding of proteins to the cascades of chemical reactions that allow cells to grow, respond to their environment and generate energy. It is a discipline that sits at the boundary of chemistry and biology, requiring command of both, and its insights are fundamental to our understanding of disease, drug action, nutrition, agriculture and the behaviour of ecosystems.
