About this course

Criminology is the systematic study of crime as a social phenomenon, examining its causes, its patterns, how societies define and measure it, and how criminal justice systems respond to it. It draws on sociology, psychology, law, history, and politics to build a multi-dimensional understanding of why crime occurs, who is affected by it, and what works in reducing it and supporting victims. As a discipline, criminology challenges assumptions and demands that you engage with evidence rather than media stereotypes or political rhetoric. This three-year, full-time programme at the University of St Mark and St John explores the causes and consequences of crime and criminality while investigating how society responds through policing, prosecution, sentencing, and rehabilitation.
