Environmental science and the climate emergency places the most pressing challenge of our time at the centre of a rigorous scientific education. The climate and environment are changing at rates and in ways that affect every aspect of human and non-human life, from the stability of food systems and the availability of freshwater to the habitability of coastal regions and the viability of ecosystems that have taken millennia to develop. Responding effectively to this emergency requires people who understand the science deeply, who can analyse complex earth systems and who can translate scientific knowledge into the kind of evidence-based action that governments, businesses and communities need.
