Environmental science is the interdisciplinary study of the natural world and the impact of human activity upon it. It integrates ecology, chemistry, geology, hydrology, and social science to understand the environmental challenges facing contemporary societies, including climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, resource depletion, and land use change. The discipline develops both the scientific understanding of environmental processes and the analytical and policy frameworks needed to respond to the environmental pressures that are among the defining issues of our time.
