About this course

The Foundation to Medicine (Year 0) pathway is designed for students who are committed to becoming doctors but whose prior qualifications do not yet meet the requirements for direct entry to a five-year medicine programme. The foundation year, sometimes called Year 0, provides the scientific grounding, study skills, and academic preparation needed before you begin the undergraduate medical curriculum, extending the total programme to six years. This route acknowledges that exceptional potential for medicine is not always matched by precisely the right combination of A-level subjects, and it provides a supported pathway for students who meet the right criteria to pursue this vocation.
