It is a discipline of both fundamental scientific importance and immediate practical relevance. Geologists investigate the physics, chemistry, and history of the Earth through hands-on examination of rocks, minerals, and fossils, as well as through remote sensing, computational modelling, and fieldwork in some of the world's most extraordinary environments.
